Why is Mr. Rich so cool? I'm insane to tackle a question this tough in a mere blog...
The answer to this question began on a cool spring day in the year 2005. Introduced minutes before as the new assistant coach, he walked by during a break in the match I was playing. "Wow, his calves are big!" I said to myself. Being also a runner, the bond was instantaneous.
Later that tennis season, he and another teammate played doubles with my best friend Jeff Andersen and me. As we ripped shots back and forth, the comments played out likewise. "I like sarcastic people," I internally remarked. The bond grew.
That fall, a new, full-time student at Mountain View, I passed him in the hall. "Hey!" he said (or something like it.) Following my response in kind, I digested a further bit of happy information. His friendliness as a coach wasn't just a show. He was, indeed, a humble, personable man.
Fast forward a year, and he still isn't married. It's ok, I'm partial to bachelors. I'm a high-school version myself. So why is a serious girlfriend still non-existent? Well, I didn't pick this template color on accident...
As a student of his, I now have the opportunity of enjoying his presence twice or thrice weekly. My journey has led me thus far. With several reasons already in hand, I'm now simply adding more concrete detail to a previous, proven conclusion: Mr. Brian Rich - tennis coach, friend in the halls and now teacher - is a cool guy.
